More Results of Our Balloon Release

At sentencing, Judge O’Toole spoke these words to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev with unbridled arrogance:

“Whenever your name is mentioned, what will be remembered is the evil you have done. No one will remember that your teachers were fond of you. No one will mention that your friends found you funny and fun to be with. No one will say you were a talented athlete or that you displayed compassion in being a Best Buddy or that you showed more respect to your women friends than your male peers did. What will be remembered is that you murdered and maimed innocent people and that you did it willfully and intentionally. You did it on purpose.”

Judge O’Toole’s words were not necessary, nor were they true.

In the prosecution’s closing, Pellegrini said, “It is his character that makes the death penalty just.”

It makes me wince to imagine what it must have been like for Dzhokhar, sitting there, hearing that said about him. His only comfort was in knowing, deep within himself, that those words were not true.

At sentencing, I still believed real bombs detonated at the Boston Marathon. I still believed three people died and many more were horribly and permanently injured.

At that time, I also was wrong in that belief.

If those who planned and carried out this terrible hoax had not had the arrogance to parade double-amputee crisis actor Jeff Bauman down Boylston Street in a wheelchair, I may never have found the path that eventually led me to see, with my own two eyes, proof positive that the Boston Marathon bombing was in fact no bombing at all. On the day I saw narrated videos of footage that I am sure was not supposed to be shot, much less posted on You Tube, my eyes were opened. Unlike the videos and explanations used to convict Dzhokhar in court, there was no gulf the size of the Grand Canyon between what I clearly saw and what I was told I was seeing – they were one and the same.

What is hard to fathom is the knowledge that those who spoke such harsh and condemning words over Dzhokhar in court had to know they not only condemned a young man for a crime he did not commit – but even worse – they condemned him for a crime that never even happened. The level of sociopathy it takes to do such a thing is incomprehensible to me.

The level of self-control displayed by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on that day also stuns. All I can conclude is that having suffered more pain, more rejection and more injustice than a human being was created to bear, this young man was simply bereft of any ability to feel (anger or anything else) on the day of sentencing.

Judge O’Toole couldn’t have been more wrong in saying Dzhokhar would not be remembered fondly: Some have only to walk outside and see flowers planted in his honor to remember him.

According to the instructions I failed to read on the seed packet, I not only missed the planting time for my growing zone by a country mile, I did everything else wrong too. Yet, the forget-me-not seeds I planted for Dzhokhar have sprouted and continue to thrive.

The world is a more beautiful place because of plantings that were done for Dzhokhar in the United States, Canada and Brazil.

Julie sowed a field by her house in Canada with wild flowers. She tells me people driving by slow down to read the sign “Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is innocent.” I love knowing this field will one day bloom for him and that for now, the sign and Julie herself will speak for him.

If O’Toole ever wants to know how wrong he was about Dzhokhar, all he has to do is go outside on a clear night and look up at the stars. The truth will be shining down – even on him from two stars in particular that bear his name – both spellings of it.

When I first got the idea to do the balloon release, I didn’t realize how it harms the environment until someone reached out on Twitter and advised me of this. A supporter in Switzerland did release a balloon and I am grateful for her expression of support for Dzhokhar.

Free Jahar Balloon

Though we gladly modified our plans in response to requests not to harm the environment, I kept  wondering what it would have looked like if, on that day, every supporter had released a balloon. When I happened upon the following video I had my answer… It gives me chills every time I watch it: there are four places where the graphics look just like a digital balloon release!

 Come Back to Life

By: Kerrie Roberts

Hands wrapped tight around the memories

Plays back just like a movie

A waking nightmare haunts you day and night

You’ve got scars that won’t fade away

You feel them every day

So stuck you’ve made a home inside your pain

Have to make a start

Have to take that step

Leave it behind before it takes your breath…

(Here come the balloons for the 1st time)

You don’t have to stay in the same old place

Throwing it all away

Don’t hold to the pain to the hurt to the shame

That keeps coming back like a boomerang

There’s grace that’s stronger

Holds on longer

Deeper than your wounds

So open up your eyes

The sun is gonna rise

You’re coming back to life

Just come back, just come back

Come back to life

Just come back…

Yeah it’s hard, the last round in a fight

Swing back, break into the light

Don’t stop believing – leave the darkness behind

Have to make a start

Have to take that step

Leave it behind before it takes your breath…

You don’t have to stay in the same old place

Throwing it all away

Don’t hold to the pain to the hurt to the shame

That keeps coming back like a boomerang

There’s grace that’s stronger

Holds on longer

Deeper than your wounds

So open up your eyes

The sun is gonna rise

You’re coming back to life

Just come back, just come back

Come back to life

Just come back…

ou don’t have to face this alone

And don’t forget whose child you are

Just remember the One who defeated death

To heal your heart

He makes things new

Old things are gone

Now watch Him turn it all around

You don’t have to stay in the same old place

Throwing it all away

Don’t hold to the pain to the hurt to the shame

That keeps coming back like a boomerang

There’s grace that’s stronger

Holds on longer

Deeper than your wounds

So open up your eyes

The sun is gonna rise

You’re coming back to life

Just come back, just come back

Come back to life

Just come back…

Two supporters who have now become friends are especially dear to me. When depression comes knocking, they remind me the words of the song above are not only true for Dzhokhar, they are true for me as well. Kim, Lincoln… I thank you from the bottom of my heart for I know you have struggles and challenges in your lives as well. You daily endure what would destroy lesser souls and encourage me that I can do the same. Thank you for every time you have encouraged me to keep going because the struggle is worth it. When Carly Simon sang “there’s more room in a broken heart” she was singing about people like you. I am privileged to know you both. May God go before us, give us victory  – and free Dzhokhar.

 The Broken Ones

By: Kerrie Roberts

Formed for a purpose He knew from the start

Shaped in His image, loved by His heart

The Potter’s Hand doesn’t make mistakes

But sometimes He lets us break down

But He lifts us up when we’re not strong enough

Let every bruise and crack remind me that

God loves the broken ones, with edges rough

That’s who He loves – the broken ones

He doesn’t see who we were

But who we’ll become

That’s why He loves the broken ones

He can look where the pieces fell

Shine a light through every scar and tear

Everything’s not lost, keep trusting

He’ll carry you, won’t leave you falling down

He will lift you up when you’re not strong enough

Let every bruise and crack remind you that

God loves the broken ones, with edges rough

That’s who He loves – the broken ones

He doesn’t see who we were

But who we’ll become

That’s why He loves the broken ones

So draw me close, hold me tight because I am a broken one…

God loves the broken ones, with edges rough

That’s who He loves – the broken ones

He doesn’t see who we were

But who we’ll become

That’s why He loves the broken ones

Winston Churchill said no crime is so great as daring to excel. I am ready to take that dare. An unexpected and somewhat unexplainable compassion for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has drawn me out of my comfort zone.

  1. good post Lynn! it pains me to read again about what o’toole said and what pellegrini said. It’s so incredibly evil and cruel. It seems that’s who runs and controls the courts, sociopaths and some psychopaths. How Dzhokhar endured all that is a mystery to me. I wouldn’t have been able to control myself, so for a young guy to remain so calm is unreal. All I can say is that everything will come out in the wash and justice will win eventually, and all who have wronged Dzhokhar, will pay for that, and all who have supported him and fought for him, will be blessed.

  2. Lynn, seeing how instructions were not followed and you planted behind your growth zone just shows that God is making those bloom in honor of Jahars innocence. They are immensely beautiful. My big red hibiscus continues to bloom big red flowers everyday. If God were mad at Jahar they wouldn’t bloom. He’s blooming what supporters planted because he knows he’s innocent and he proving it. I am so grateful and thankful for every supporter that took part in the remembrance of Jahars capture. Each and every one made this possible. I thank you for your kind words Lynn. I consider you a great friend myself. We both have had and continue to have struggles and we cope with them by being there for each other. I thank you Lynn for always being there through the happy times. Boy we have shared a laugh, tears and I will continue being in your present and future Lynn. I was just supposed to be here for the trial hear the verdict and go but I have met some of the amazing people here on twitter. You being the main one Lynn. For that I’m still here and for the truth…Jahars innocence. When we partnered up to purchase the star together, I knew we were in this for the long haul. Because stars shine forever….and tonight and forever (like our friendship) Jahars star will shine bright & forever and no one can take that away from him….

I loved the video! Even if we didn’t do the balloon release, it looked like hundreds of balloons flying in the sky for Jahar! Love the blog Lynn and I love you dearly! I am truly honored💕
