Your Action Needed

On April 19, 2016 I want to mark the anniversary of Dzhokhar’s capture with a simultaneous balloon release.

The rules for participation are simple: Take a white helium balloon and write the following with a black marker:

FREE
JAHAR

Next to his name draw a box (the kind you would put a checkmark in).

On April 19th at sunrise, I plan to go to the field next to my apartment complex and release my balloon. As I watch it fly away, I will be listening to the following song:

Ooh, Child
(Hall & Oates version)

Ooh, child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh, child, things will get brighter
Ooh, child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh, child, things will get brighter

Someday we’ll put together
What was coming undone
Someday we’ll tie it all tighter
Someday we can lay in the rays
Of a beautiful sun
Someday the sky will be brighter

Ooh, child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh, child, things will get brighter
Ooh, child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh, child, things will get brighter

Someday it won’t be long
Until I see you again
Someday the time will be tighter
Someday you’ll lose the blue
And the hurt in your heart
Then my heart will be lighter

Ooh, child, things are gonna be easier
Ooh, child, things will be brighter
Ooh, child, things are gonna be easier
Ooh, child, things will be brighter

On the day of his release, we will have a second balloon release. On that day, before releasing our balloons, we will place a checkmark in that empty box next to his name. Maybe one of us will be fortunate enough to travel to the prison and hand him a balloon to release after adding his own words to it.

I would love to hear who will join me in this symbolic gesture of hope, faith, encouragement and unity on April 19th at sunrise… If you will, please send a comment to this blog or like this post.

Later in the morning, I hope to see Twitter flooded with pictures of our balloons floating to the heavens.

You know, I never worry about the laughter and mocking from those who call us “fan girls” and worse… There is a depth of love, beauty and quality to our lives that they will never know and I am satisfied to be derided as a “fan girl” for it.

Winston Churchill said no crime is so great as daring to excel. I am ready to take that dare. An unexpected and somewhat unexplainable compassion for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has drawn me out of my comfort zone.

  1. for sure i will join in and when that day comes and dzhokhar is released nothing will keep me away from being there and running into his beautiful arms and holding him and letting him know they tried like hell to shut us up but we never did

  2. This is a great idea. I will certainly be participating and sharing with everyone I know. Some supporters and I did something similar in 2013 with green balloons.

    1. If we could get enough participants, we should do a press release. Someone could write something, we could send it to each of our media outlets

  3. Lynn, this is really a beautiful idea and I will happily join in. I have a field near me as well. Wouldn’t it be great, as we set our balloon free to spot other balloons in the sky as well. I will repost this where ever I can. Thank you for this loving gesture for Dzhokhar.

    1. Thank you Julie! And yes I thought of that too, how moving it would be to see another balloon or two or two hundred…
